Reflections by Rosario Teixeira Canton, MA The Akillian Gallery at the Massassoit College, located at 900 Randolph Street in Canton, is hosting Reflections, an art exhibit by Daniel Varoujan Hejinian. The exhibit will be open from October 11 to November 4. The public is invited to the opening reception Tuesday, October 18 th The Reflections exhibit is a combination of art work from the Peace of Art collection and from the romantic expressionism series. Peace of Art, Inc. is a non-profit organization created and founded by Daniel Varoujan Hejinian, to bring awareness to the human condition and to promote peaceful solutions to conflict. He uses art as an educational tool to bring together into dialogue persons of opposing views, to consider and to address complex and often controversial issues. Each art work is a window onto our society, where we see reflections of ourselves, from hunger, homelessness, greed, to family support, longing for innocence lost, and hope for peace. Contrary to Peace of Art, the paintings from the romantic expressionism series reflect joy, dreams, and a return to innocence. In Sisters, the artist addressed the dichotomy of contrasts. The Sun and the Moon the light and the darkness, the day and the night - are represented by the two sisters, both arebeautiful and depend on each other their existence. With a flaming blonde hair, Sun plays a string instrument to wake up the day, while Moon, the brunette is dressed in the cool blue colors of the night and with her piano notes she covers the city with a soothing blanket of sound. In Virgins with Lamps, two young women carry oil lamps. One carries a lamp burning with faith and hope leading her way to happiness, while the other holds her darken lamp, as a symbol of her lost faith, and returns to refill it... I hope visitors to the gallery come away with a sense of the artist’s energy and the direction and purpose in each expression. The artistic motivation and personal thought combine magically within each frame. The opposing subjects in the two series offset one another as the viewer moves from one side of the gallery to the other. Along one wall are reflections of the darker side of humanity played out in shades of black and brown charcoal. Displayed along the other wall are depictions of the joys in life, painted in rich, warm colors. Said Ellyn Moller, the gallery director. The art work is available for sale and the proceeds will benefit Peace of Art, Inc. For a preview of art work and for more information please log onto
